Deep black November

How can one survive November? How can one outwit, outplay and outlast this endless darkness, this deep black rain?

Grey November Sunday

Pääsin eilisiltä käsityömessuilta halvemmalla kuin parina viime vuotena. Mukaan tarttui yksi neulemallikirja ja pari kerää lankaa (2 sukkalankaa ja yksi huivilanka). Tätä säästäväistä linjaa edesauttoi mukana ollut tytär, joka tehokkaasti lyhensi kaikkien lankaosastojen kohdalla vietettyä haaveiluaikaa. Tytär tosin itse nettosi samasta tilaisuudesta karvapipon, kankaisen olkalaukun ja manganpiirtokirjan, joten taisi jäädä tässä showssa voiton puolelle.

Mutta nyt on sitten taas sukkalankaa ja uudet sukat, Anastasiat, puikoilla. Puikkokoko on puolittunut edellisestä, mihin menee taas vähän aikaa totutellessa. Lankana on Regian Hand-dye Effect, jossa on kyllä hieno harmaan kiilto, mutta joka löysäkierteisenä tekee neulomisesta haastavaa. Taas ehkä väärä lankavalinta...

Bits and pieces

This pullover has its origins at least in three individual patterns: Tuulia's The Tailored Sweater was the starting point. I wanted to knit something for myself using TTS and to put it into a real test. I wanted to knit quite a simple pullover with a little bit of twist. Then, I saw a picture of Berrocco's Eastlake. It gave me the basic layout: stockinette stitch base, an asymmetric lace pattern, simple purl stripes and a green colour. After that, I browsed through my knitting magazines and searched for a suitable lace patterns. I ended up using Deborah Newton's Rib and lace cardigan from Vogue Knitting Holiday Season 2008. The Tailored Sweater method passed my test: it made pullover knitting far more interesting and precise than before: I took the measures, knitted a swatch, tested the unfinished work constantly on me and made the modifications right away. The only problem was with the sleeve caps (which, unfortunately, is also the most critical part of the TTS method), where I had to manually adjust the increases in both sides of the armhole seam. As a result, the sleeve cap became a bit curvy, but I believe that no one notices it but me...

In spite of the nation-wide boycott against Novita, I used Novita's Luxus Wind (80% wool, 20%silk) in this. It is wery soft and knittable yarn with a tiny white silk lumps in it. But for now on, I won't buy more of Novita's yarn. At least not for a while...

Sleeves are long and straight, and perhaps a bit too wide. This is a very soft and comfy pullover, it fits well and feels right at home. Still, I can't see myself wearing this at work.

Knit Nation!

In the previous post, only a few minutes ago, I was whining about the knitter's block that has overwhelmed me. Then, I saw the light: Knit Nation! Three days of knitting and yarn in London at the end of July 2010! I'm just recovering from the last knitting retreat and now this! Would it be awesome to travel to London by yourself only to knit and to talk about knitting! And to meet all the gurus: Cookie A and Nancy Bush! Wow! I have to give this a serious thought.

Knitter's Block

Täällä on päällänsä jonkinlainen luova tauko - tai pikemminkin luomaton tauko. Töissä on rankin vaihe pitkään aikaan, jatko-opintokurssit alkoivat taas ja henkinen kuormitus on ollut koholla jo pitkään. Samaan aikaan lankavarastot ovat huvenneet kaikesta hauskasta, eikä keskeneräisiä töitäkään ole sohvilla ja koreissa tekemässä itseään tykö. Ehkä Retriittikin teki osansa - siellä neulottiin ja puhuttiin neulomisesta ainakin parin kuukauden edestä. Joten nyt sitten vaan odotellaan inspiraatiota. Aina se on jostain tullut.

Jotain positiivista sentään: Tänään on Kolmannen Naisen keikka Pakkahuoneella! Whohaa! Tosin niukan lapsenvahtitilanteen takia ajamme suoraan keikalle ja suoraan kotiin, mutta silti hieno ilta tulossa!
